A brave hero!

Faith picked up Josefina and held her close. "We can't leave my hen, either," she said.

The main character was Faith and Josefina, a hen whom she loved.
Their family were preparing for going to California. She desired to take Josefina but her father didn't allow her to take it.
Finally, she could leave with Josefina as long as nothing happen.
One night, burglars came to the family to steal quilts when they were sleeping.
Suddenly, Josefina cluck loudly so the burglars ran away.
Josefina protected the family and their important quilts from danger.

Although, Faith found Josefina being dead.
She was surprised and very sad.

This book was sad story. I thought Josefina was a brave hero.
