Little Women

"A tall man was standing behind Laurie. Everybody looked at the man. For a moment, they did not speak. Then the girls shouted together, 'father!'"

洋書>Little women (Macmillan readers) | アン・コリンズ, ルイザ ...     An family lives in Massachusetts. They have only a small house and eat poor meal. In fact, the father, Mr March is away in the war to make a living. The daughters are happy and enjoy daily life themselves even though they are poor. Unlike them, a boy called Laurie Laurence who lives next to them is rich. For example, he has a fine book shelf and big piano, so the poor daughters admire his beautiful life. They become friends with him and visit each house frequently.
One day, a telegram comes from their father's co-worker. It says that their father is suffering from  ill in Washington. Then, their mother decides to go there. John Brook who is a kind man helps her to visit her husband. Unfortunately, one of the daughters gets red fever. The sisters take care of her instead of their mother. However, she is getting worse. Mother cannot come back home immediately...
I was moved by the bounds of all the characters. The sisters often argue but they cooperate with each other in a difficult condition. In addition to this, Laurence family and John help them kindly although they are not rich. I learned that human relationship is more important than money from this story. We have to enjoy our life to the fullest in where we stand.

  1. I agree your thought that human relationships are more important than money. Recently I stay my apartment alone without the connection of my family because of the horrible situation. From your book review, I decided to keep in touch with them.

  2. Have you seen the movie "Little Women"? It has been nominated for the Oscar. The story itself was really touching because these four women have strong ties with each other. If you have chance, don't forget to check this movie!
